MLK Day of Service

We team with Gloucester Township to collect and bag toiletries to supply to those in need.

Souper Bowl of Caring

Canned goods and cash donations help provide healthy meals through the local food pantries we support.

International Homeless Outreach Council (IHOC)

In conjunction with the United Methodist Women, the Chews Outreach Committee assists in sponsoring the Interfaith Homeless Outreach Council. The committee helps the homeless of our area with distribution of toiletries, and, in the fall, backpacks full of school supplies for homeless children.

ChewsUMC outreach participates in the IHOC Mall Walk each February to help raise funds to assist men who are in transition from the streets to independent living. The walk is held the last Sunday in February.

Sweatin’ to the Oldies

A fun-filled event for all ages held each year in March for the admission price of a container of deodorant. You get to enjoy great music, games, prizes, and refreshments.

Health Fair and Blood Drive | Relay for Life

For this community event, we are joined by various health care providers and vendors who provide a great deal of information about health and wellness. How to stay healthy, including free screenings, coupled with an American Red Cross blood drive. Each year in June, at Veteran’s Park, ChewsUMC outreach participate in the American Cancer Society, ‘Relay for Life.’ The relay begins on a Saturday morning and continues through until Sunday morning. Volunteers make sure someone is on the track walking during the entire time. Many feet make light the work; many volunteers mean everyone only needs to walk for a short while. Come join us during this important event and help raise money for a good cause.

Blessing of the Animals

Each September ChewsUMC Outreach holds a service to bless our precious animal friends. The service is held in the church parking lot. We ask for donations of pet food which is taken to the local no-kill shelters.

Harvest Festival

The event includes Trunk or Treat, crafters, vendors, used book sales, a bake sale, free games, prizes and food purchased from various food-trucks and local vendors. Plus, toss a whipped cream pie at the Pastor!

Clothing Distribution | Take it to the Streets | Cookie Brigade

The second Sunday of each month we collect clean, usable clothing, socks, shoes, coats, hats, scarves, blankets, and toiletries for distribution to those in need. A group meets every Thursday 9:30 – 11:00 am at the church chapel to sort the clothing that has been collected. ChewsUMC outreach extends to the streets of Philadelphia, PA, and Camden, NJ each Tuesday to distribute bag lunches, toiletries, and clothing. The Cookie Brigade with the Unforgotten Haven make cookies for Outreach groups the second Saturday of the month 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Serving Dinner in Camden, NJ

Twice each year on the fourth Sunday in March and August, we serve dinner to those in need. We meet at New Beginnings United Methodist Church to provide physical and spiritual food to our friends at the church.

The Neighborhood Center

is a United Methodist Outreach that has been serving the people of Camden, New Jersey since 1913. They currently have a daycare and after school programs as well as a soup kitchen which serves thousands of meals each month. A Flash Grocery Store is created for Thanksgiving so that about 600 families who qualify can choose the foods they want for their dinners. A Flash Christmas Store is created so that parents can choose Christmas gifts for their children. ChewsUMC donates food and gifts for these events. The Center’s programs are growing and volunteers are welcome any day of the week.

Angel Tree

ChewsUMC outreach provides Christmas gifts for children who attend a local elementary school. We provide the ages and sizes of children, along with a few of their wishes. Members of the congregation provides the gifts for a Merry Christmas for those who would otherwise have none.

Sock Hop | Undie Sundae

Another great time for all ages is the ‘Sock Hop.’ This activity started the musical fun. Each July we hold an old-fashioned sock hop. Price of admission is only 2 pairs of socks. Join us for a fun-filled day of  music, games, prizes, and refreshments. The ‘Undie Sundae’ theme event is held in August in order to provide those in need with all that they need. This event includes music, games, prizes, AND make-your-own ice cream sundaes. Price of admission is a pack of undies for men, women, or children.

“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
