From OUR Pastor
Happy New Year! 2019 is here and we are excited about all the possibilities God has in store for us. January and February are filled with ministries and small groups. May I reflect on a few of the happenings which lie ahead.
A new and exciting sermon series entitled, “_____ You Very Much: When Did Everyone Get So Rude?” will begin in January. Our society is on a slippery slope with the way people treat one another. Rudeness abounds. Social media is filled with distressing attitudes. People seem to have an inner anger which comes out in some very inappropriate ways. We will be considering these issues in light of the Scripture readings for the Epiphany season. See page 3 for more information.
Once again we will be celebrating Baptism Renewal Sunday on January 13th as we welcome back all the children I have baptized at Chews over the past 10 and a half years. It is always a treat to have many of the children with us at 9:30 and 11:00 am in honor of their baptism.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend will be celebrated again this year as we join together with our sister church, Mt. Zion UMC of Lawnside.
On January 20th, Rev. Goldsborough and I will once again be exchanging pulpits. Both congregations are blessed by this exchange.
In the evening, both churches will come together here at Chews for a covered dish dinner at 6:00 pm. Following this time of fellowship, we will gather in the Sanctuary at 7:30 pm for a musical evening with the choirs and worship teams from both churches. On Monday, January 21, we will once again join in Gloucester Township’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. More information follows in the newsletter about ways in which you can serve.
January 27 will be a day where we welcome the elected leaders of our community to join us for Worship at the 11:00 am service. We will be recognizing the township and school board elected officials. Likewise, we will be recognizing our local church elected leaders at all the services.
We are very excited about the emerging ministries here at Chews. Just recently, we have been blessed by the children of our church with a puppet ministry, our dance team, “Devotion in Motion” and our Children’s Choir. New small groups are beginning to reach additional persons by connecting people together in common interest areas.
Please read throughout this edition of the Mouse News to see all the ministries available in and through Chews UMC. Once again, I wish you God’s Best for 2019.
